GREENSBORO, N.C. (February 19, 2023) – Howard University women's bowling team came away empty at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Meet No. 2, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT).
During the two-day tourney (Feb. 18-19), HU dropped all eight traditional conference matches. As a result, the Bison finished league play 1-15 and will miss the MEAC Tournament.
Despite the team's outcome, several Bison put on solid performances, led by freshman standout
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago). In eight games, the Chicago native averaged 187.0, including a career-best 247 against Norfolk State (NSU).
HU opened the event with three consecutive losses against ranked opponents: No. 10 Maryland Eastern Shore (771-1,002); No. 16 Delaware State (830-973) and No. 6 NCAT (892-1,153). Senior bowler
Vanessa Johnson (Chicago) had her best outing of the season against the Lady Hornets, rolling 212.
Howard rounded out Day One with losses against UAB (817-964) and Monmouth (737-862).
The next day, HU fell short to NSU (832-916), Coppin State (826-900) and No. 24 Morgan State (828-911). Freshman
Sydney Allison (Ypsilanti, Mich.) recorded a 233 performance against the Lady Bears.
Junior
Aleyana DeBrest (Philadelphia) registered a pair of 200 games against the Aggies and UAB.
North Carolina A&T State clinched the MEAC regular season title and top spot in next month's tournament.
On Feb. 24-26, HU wraps up the regular season back in Greensboro for the Stallings Invitational, hosted by NCAT.
