Gallop Grabs Stats Perform FCS All-America Honors

Bison standout gets another All-American recognition

WASHINGTON (December 19, 2023) – STATS Perform unveiled its 2023 FCS All-America Team, presented by FedEx Ground, where Howard University senior defensive back Kenny Gallop, Jr. (Portsmouth, Va.) made the squad. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.

The reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Year received second team honors after guiding HU to its first-ever Cricket Celebration Bowl berth.

Throughout the week, Gallop has received several awards, including All-American honors from BOXTOROW, FCS Football Central and Phil Steele. Recently, he won the 2023 Aeneas Williams Award, given to the top defensive back in HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Division I college football based on performance on the field, athletic ability and character.

In the regular season, the Buck Buchanan Award finalist produced 65 total tackles (42 solos) with six tackles for loss, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two quarterback hurries. In the homecoming victory over Norfolk State (Oct. 21), Gallop recorded a season-high 11 total tackles and the game-clinching interception. For his efforts, he was named FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.

The All-America team consists of 109 players, representing all 13 FCS leagues and 57 schools.

Howard finished the 2023 campaign 6-6 (4-1 MEAC), winning back-to-back MEAC titles.
