LEXINGTON, Ky. & NEW YORK (January 14, 2023) – Howard University women's track & field displayed several solid performances at the Rod McCravy Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky, and the annual HBCU Battle in New York City.
ROD MCCRAVY INVITE
In the short hurdles (60-meter), juniors
Darci Khan and
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) took fourth (8.41) and seventh (8.43), respectively. Graduate
Cathrina Morris also made the final round but was scratched.
Second-year Bison
Lamaria Washington (Miami) reached the final round of the 60-meter dash with a non AQ time of 7.58. Next round, the Miami native placed seventh overall (7.53).
HBCU BATTLE
On the track, newcomer
Lauren Thompson led the way with a pair of top 10 finishes. She took second in the 200-meter dash (25.15), followed by a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.90).
In the 3K race, sophomore
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) and seniors
Breanna McDonald (Bethesda, Md.) and
Melanie White (Orlando, Fla.) earned second (10:50.26), third (10:50.39) and fourth (11:07.01), respectively.
Sophomore
Camille Egbula (Simpsonville, S.C.) and freshman
Jordyn Miller (Mundelein, Ill.) placed third (5:10.66) and fourth (5:21.37), respectively, in the mile run.
In the field, newcomer
Temi Banwo had two top 10 finishes in the shot put (10.72 meters/9
th) and weight throw (12.83 meters/10
th).
Senior
Minyarn Smalls (Cary, N.C.) also competed in the shot put, placing third overall (12.11 meters).
Fellow classmate
Symone Marsh (Hillsborough, N.J.) took fourth in the weight throw (15.14 meters).
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Jan. 20-21, HU's road trip continues in Columbia, S.C., for the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
