SOMERSET, N.J. (November 2, 2022) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) uncovered its men's and women's swimming & diving weekly honors where Howard University saw four Bison earn individual accolades. The announcement came Wednesday afternoon.
On the men's side, senior
Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) led the way, earning NEC Swimmer of the Week, while second-year Bison
Jordan Walker (San Antonio) claimed the league's Diver of the Week. Newcomer
Taj Benton (Baltimore) received Rookie of the Week.
For the women,
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) took home the conference's Swimmer and Rookie of the Week accolades.
Friday (Oct. 28), Beckles won the 50 Free at American, clocking in at 20.96. The next day (Oct. 29), the Trinidad & Tobago native earned a pair of victories in the 200 Free (1:42.76) and 50 Fly (22.65), which tops the league.
At American, Walker competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives where he placed third (236.05) and second (248.05), respectively. The next day, he finished runner-up in the 1-meter dive, producing a 229.57 versus VMI.
Benton won the 200 Fly at American with a conference-best 1:56.89. Saturday (Oct. 29), he claimed first place in the 50 Free versus VMI, recording a 21.49 mark.
Nwaeze earned the top spot in the 200 Fly versus American, clocking in at 2:09.31. The following day, the Maryland product won a pair of individual events in the 500 Free (5:12.52) and 1000 Free (10:42.36).
Overall, nine Bison earned a spot on the NEC Prime Performers this week: Beckles; Benton; Nwaeze;
Miles Simon (Atlanta);
Michaela Spears (Chicago);
Teyana Johnson (San Antonio);
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas);
Mark-Anthony Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) and
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas).
On Nov. 5, the Bison continue the fall season on the road at NJIT for a Tri-Meet versus the Highlanders, LIU and Sacred Heart.
