WASHINGTON (February 6, 2020) – After spending a few weeks away from competition, the Howard University women's bowling team returns to action for the Baker Classic, hosted by Chestnut Hill College in Sinking Springs, Pa. Over the three-day span (Feb. 7-9), the Bison will compete in baker and traditional style matches.
Competition begins 10:30 a.m. Friday (Feb. 7) at Berks Lanes.
LAST TIMEOUT
The Bison competed at the Northeast Invitational, hosted by Sacred Heart (Jan. 17-19).
There were no wins on day one, but the team defeated New Jersey City (NJCU) on days two and three. Junior
Carolyn Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) was key to this effort with 190 points against NJCU on the second day of competition. Sophomore
Jahnia Phillips (Elmont, N.Y.) also had a big weekend, averaging 176 pinfalls over five traditional matches.
MEET PREVIEW
Friday (Feb. 7), the Bison compete in five baker style matches where they will face NJCU, Kutztown University, Mount Aloysius College, conference rival Norfolk State University and nationally ranked Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The next day (Feb. 8) consist of five traditional style matches where the squad squares off against Molloy College, Caldwell University, No. 25 Long Island University, No. 21 Adelphi University and tournament host Chestnut Hill College.
Performance over the first two days of competition will determine seeding on the final day (Feb. 9), which will consist of three best-of-seven baker style matches.
UPCOMING SEASON
On Feb. 14-16, HU continues its season at nearby Towson, Md., for the James Brown Invitational, hosted by conference foe Morgan State.
