KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (February 21, 2020) – Howard University men's swimming & diving squad continues to rewrite history at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships, breaking six more school marks on Day Three.
HU has shattered 16 milestones in three days, including 13 on the men's side.
The 400 Medley Relay squad of juniors
Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) and
William Speakman Smith II (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshmen
Miles Simon (Atlanta) and
Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.) eclipsed the program mark by more than a second (3:23.14).
Individually, Smith took down his own school record in the men's 100 Breast (56.54), a mark he set in last year's CCSA Championships.
Simon and fellow classmates
Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) and
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) continue to leave their marks, each setting a new program record.
Beckles eclipsed the men's 100 Butterfly, clocking in at 49.52, while the Atlanta native broke a five-year record in the 100 Back with a 49.97 time.
Thompson shattered the school's 400 IM twice Friday, producing a 4:06.94 mark in the prelims, followed by a 4:02.83 time in the finals. The Bahamas native has broken the record three times this season.
Other notable performances included sophomore
Miguel Davis, Jr. (Washington) and freshman
T'lez Foulkes (Durham, N.C.) registering the school's fourth (56.87) and seventh (57.15) best times in the 100 Breast, respectively.
In the men's 100 Butterfly, first-year Bison
Kevin Claiborne (Queens, N.Y.) made the program's top 10 performance lists with the seventh-fastest marks (50.69).
The action concludes Saturday (Feb. 22) with more events held inside the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
