WASHINGTON (February 20, 2020) – Howard University women's bowling team rolls into Florida for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) meet No. 2 in Pensacola, Fla., hosted by Florida A&M.
The three-day event (Feb. 21-23) takes place at Cordova Lanes (2111 Airport Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32504).
MEET PREVIEW
This weekend, all 11 of the league's bowling programs will be in action.
After this tourney, the top eight teams in the standings will compete in the 2020 MEAC Bowling Championship (March 20-22) in Chesapeake, Va. Currently, HU is sixth in the MEAC standings with a 5-5 conference mark.
Third-year bowler
Carolyn Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) guides the Bison, rolling a team-high 181.2 average with 6,522 total pinfalls. In November, the Maryland native registered a season-best 267 at the Aggie Stallings Invitational.
So far this year, the Bison have won 10 matches against ranked opponents in the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA), including their biggest victory a week ago versus No. 13 Sacred Heart at the James Brown Invitational (Feb. 14-16).
LAST TIMEOUT
HU saw success on the lanes at the James Brown Invitational (Feb. 14-16), hosted by Morgan State, where the squad finish fifth overall after going 8-5 for the weekend.
Williams led the way in traditional competition, averaging a 187.6 in five matches. Sophomores
Jahnia Phillips (Elmont, N.Y.) and
Jayla Webster (Woodbridge, Va.) followed suit, producing 184.4 and 181.8 averages, respectively.
UPCOMING SEASON
On March 20-22, Howard heads to the 2020 MEAC Championships in Chesapeake, Va.
