Thompson, Watson Sweep CCSA Men’s Weekly Honors

Pair of Bison recognized for outstanding efforts

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (January 7, 2020) – Howard University freshman Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) and junior Jalen Watson (Miami) swept the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) weekly honors for their outstanding efforts at UMBC (Jan. 4). The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
 
Thompson claimed CCSA Swimmer of the Week while the Miami native took home league's top diver weekly honor. As a result, both Bison earned their first ever career CCSA honors.
 
Thompson became the third Bison this season to win the award after swimming the program's sixth fastest time (17:22.53) in the men's 1650 Free; thus, claiming fourth overall in the event. Additionally, he guided the club's 800 Free Relay squad to a third-place finish after posting a 2:20.51 mark in the second leg.
 
Watson grabbed HU's first diver of the week after recording a third-place finish in the men's 1-meter dive, scoring 157.72. He also competed in the 100 Back where he placed sixth overall in the event, clocking in at 1:09.77.
 
On the women's side, Liberty's Payton Keiner earned CCSA Swimmer of the Week honors while Florida Gulf Coast's Reese Wakefield was named the CCSA Diver of the Week.
 
On Jan. 18, the Bison host a three-team meet inside Burr Pool against Marymount and Mount St. Mary's. The Senior Day festivities start 1 p.m.
