BALTIMORE (January 4, 2020) – Howard University men's swimming & diving team opened the new year with a tough 129-135 loss at UMBC.
Freshman
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) returned to the pool, recording the program's sixth-fastest time in the men's 1650 Free, clocking in at 17:22.53.
Fellow classmate
Miles Simon (Atlanta) also etched himself in the school record book, placing sixth all-time in the 100 Back (52.64), while finishing runner-up in the event.
Juniors
Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) and
William Speakman Smith II (Jacksonville, Fla.) each won their respective events. Ford won the 50 Free with a 21.79 mark while Smith earned the top spot in the 100 Breast (59.23).
Second-year swimmer
Miguel Davis, Jr. (Atlanta) fell one-hundredth of a second in winning the men's 50 Breast, registering a 27.66.
Other notable performance included newcomer
Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) earning second place in the 100 Butterfly with a 52.43 time.
On Jan. 18, the Bison host a three-team meet inside Burr Pool against Marymount and Mount St. Mary's. The Senior Day festivities start 1 p.m.
