WASHINGTON (January 3, 2020) – After finishing the fall schedule with a strong outing, the Howard University men's and women's swimming & diving teams are back in action Saturday (Jan. 4) when they travel to Baltimore to face UMBC in a duel meet. First race is scheduled for 2 p.m.
LAST TIMEOUT
On Dec. 6-7, HU finished the fall slate at the H2ounds Invitational, hosted by Loyola (Md.).
For the men, a pair of school records were broken. The 400 medley relay squad of junior
William Speakman Smith II (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshmen
Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago),
Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.) and
Miles Simon (Atlanta) broke the school benchmark with a 3:24.37 time while, individually, newcomer
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) reset the program's 400 IM with a new time of 4:09.77.
On the women's side, senior
Leanne McMaster (Kingston, Jamaica) holds the eighth-fastest time in the women's 200 Breast, clocking in at 2:29.32. As a result, she was named Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Women's Swimmer of the Week.
MEET PREVIEW
HOWARD
HU men enter Saturday with a 4-1 overall record in duel meets, including a road win at Chowan, 166-85.
For the women (2-3), they are looking to snap its three-meet slide while moving back to .500 on the season.
UMBC
On Nov. 21-23, UMBC ended its fall schedule with the annual Patriot Invitational, hosted by George Mason.
In duel meets this season, the men are 3-2 overall while the women own a 1-4 mark.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Jan. 18, the Bison host a three-team meet inside Burr Pool against Marymount and Mount St. Mary's. The Senior Day festivities start 1 p.m.
