BALTIMORE (December 7, 2019) – Howard University men's swimming & diving team broke a pair of school records at the H2ounds Invitational, hosted by Loyola (Md.).
 
Friday (Dec. 6), the 400 medley relay squad of junior William Speakman Smith II (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshmen Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago), Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.) and Miles Simon (Atlanta) broke the school benchmark with a 3:24.37 time, shattering the previous mark by over a second (3:25.29).
 
Individually, newcomer Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) reset the program's 400 IM with a new time of 4:09.77, breaking the seven-year mark held by Ben Skelding. Thompson also produced the second-fastest time in school history with a 1:56.30 mark in the 200 IM.
 
Other notable individual performances included Simon swimming the second-fastest mark in the program's 100 Back (51.27) while freshman Reese Samuel (Pittsburgh) recorded the third-best time in the school's 200 Fly (1:57.35).
 
The 200 Medley Relay team consisting of Simon, Solomon, junior Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) and freshman T'lez Foulkes (Durham, N.C.) fell just shy of breaking the school mark, clocking in at 1:32.86.
 
Overall, the squad placed fourth in the event, scoring 401 points.

Howard returns to the pool in 2020 when they travel back to Baltimore to face UMBC in a duel meet. Saturday's (Jan. 4) first race is set for 2 p.m.
