WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Howard University senior Michael Cronwell's (Owings Mill, Maryland) eight-yard touchdown grab, capped off a wild fourth quarter, to seal a 20-15 victory over Morgan State University Bears, Saturday afternoon at Greene Stadium.
Howard finished the season 2-10 overall, 2-6 in conference play, while Morgan State Bears ends their season 3-9, and 2-6.
HU's Dedrick Parson (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was the star of the day, recording a career-high 177 yards on 26 carries and a scored 9-yard touchdown play in the second quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Howard's defense started the game strong holding the Bears to a 3-and-out.
- The Bison's first offensive drive started on a high with ten initial strong plays before throwing an incomplete pass. HU ran eight times for 59 yards and converting a third down-play. In all, Howard gained 81-yards in 16 plays. Howard missed the 27-yard field goal attempt wide left.
- In the ensuing drive, Morgan State pieced together a 10-play, 80-yard drive, capped off by a 34-yard pitch and catch to Wes Wolfolk to take the lead, 8-0 with 4:28 left in the first quarter.
- The Bears defense came alive on the next drive holding the Bison to a 3-and-out.
- Morgan State used a 9-play on a 64-yard drive to the Howard five-yard line when their drive stalled. Howard's special team came up with one of the biggest plays of the game when HU freshman Ray Williams (Detroit, Mich.) blocked the 21-yard chip shot field goal.
- Two drives later Howard's offense connected on a 49-yard play on the Morgan State nine-yard line to set up a nine-yard bruising touchdown run by Parson to cut the lead, 8-7 with 2:05 In the first half.
- The Bison defense held the Bears to another 3-and-out with negative yardage.
- Howard had one more opportunity to score before the half, with a hail-mary at the Morgan State 31-yard, the Bears intercepted the pass at the one-yard line as time expired.
- After intermission, Howard took the lead on their second possession on a Kyle Anthony (Miramar, Fla.) six-yard sideline catch. The play was called incomplete on the field, but after the review, the referee reversed the call as he made a tiptoe grab on the sideline to take the lead, 14-8 with 7:24 left In the third quarter.
- The Bison's nine-play, 98-yard drive took 5:29 off the clock. Parson sparked the drive with a 71-yard scamper down the sideline, after initially being stopped at the line of scrimmage. It is Parson second 70+ yard run this season (Sept. 28, 2019 vs Bethune-Cookman)
- Howard's defense held the Bears in complete control, when Morgan State finally broke through in the fourth quarter with 6:59 left in regulation, methodically marching down the field 80-yards in 8-plays to take a 15-14 lead with 3:09 left on the clock.
- Howard's game-winning drive was well put together, the Bison leaned on Parson-Williams' legs to get the job done. Williams made the right decision bringing the ball down and tucking it in for positive plays. HU drove 65-yards and cemented the game with an 8-yard pitch and catch to Cornwell to take the lead, 20-15.
- Morgan State had one more opportunity to steal the win with 32 seconds left in regulation, throwing a hail mary from Howard's 30-yard line that fell incomplete in the endzone.

- Howard recognized nine seniors Ken Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio), Merrick Simms II (Atlanta, Ga.), Demontre Buckson (Rock Hill, S.C.), Tyler Fuller (Houston, Texas) ,Cornwell , Marcellos Allison (Durham, N.C.), Philip Flemming (Hopkins, S.C.), and Kyle Anthony (Miramar, Fla.) before the game.
- Parson ran for a career-high (170 yards), in the past three-games he ran for 340 yards (130 at South Carolina State, 41 at Florida A&M and 170 versus Morgan State)
- Williams ends his rookie campaign as the Bison's leading tackler, racking up 43 solo tackles, 61 total tackles, one interception, five pass broke ups. Against Morgan State, he ends on a high-note collecting six solo tackles, a half-sack, a forced fumble, and a blocked field goal.
- Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) returned to the lineup after being out the past two games due to injury, completed 13 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns while adding 52 yards on the ground.
- Anthony ends his season hauling in a career-high 70 passes this season for 786 yards and six touchdowns. Anthony ends his care catching the most catches in Howard's history grabbing 203 receptions for 2,655 yards and 23 touchdowns.
