WASHINGTON (October 18, 2019) – Howard University men's and women's swimming & diving squads travel to the Tar Heel State where the Chowan Hawks await. First race is set for 1 p.m. in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Both squads won their respective duel meet against Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
On the men's side, they defeated VMI, 167.5-126.5, inside a packed Burr Pool. Individually, freshmen
Miles Simon (Atlanta) and
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) led the way. Simon won the men's 100 Backstroke (54.67) and 200 Backstroke (1:59.23) while Thompson claimed first-place in the 200 Freestyle (1:46.49) and 500 Freestyle (4:50.68).
For the women, they displayed solid all-around performances in their dominate victory over VMI, 204-77, in front of a raucous home crowd inside Burr Pool. Individually, junior
Christian Nickolas (Brentwood, Calif.), sophomore
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.) and newcomer
Breyahna Tyme (Ontario, Canada), each won two events apiece.

HU looks to keep the momentum going with a three-meet home stretch on the horizon.
On Oct. 8, the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) unveiled its swimming & diving weekly honors where the Bison saw junior
William Speakman Smith II (Jacksonville, Fla.) acknowledged for his outstanding performances at the Potomac Relays (Oct. 4) and versus VMI (Oct. 5).
For the Bison women, they are looking to build upon their 12 victories against VMI, led by seniors
Leanne McMaster (Kingston, Jamaica),
Skylar Smith (Los Angeles) and
Andreas Weech (Nassau, Bahamas).
CHOWAN
Both clubs return home after a tough opening weekend. Chowan men fell to Barton, 65-306, and Lees-McRae, 144-210, while the women earned a split, defeating Lees-McRae, 191-151, but falling to Barton, 97-274.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Saturday (Oct. 26), Howard returns to The Hilltop where they will begin a three-meet home stand against Mary Washington. Meet time is slated for 1 p.m. inside Burr Gym Pool.
