NORFOLK, Va. (January 12, 2019) – Howard University Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving squads took third overall in a multi-team competition, hosted by Old Dominion (ODU).
HU men fell to the Monarchs, 182-93, and Virginia Military Institute (VMI), 171-113, but the Howard women took down the VMI, 136-104. The women also came up short against ODU, 216-71, and Campbell, 214-55.
Senior
Farion Cooper II (Nassau, Bahamas) and sophomore
Christian Nickolas (Brentwood, Calif.) led the way for HU.
Saturday, Cooper recorded season bests in the men's 100 and 200 Backstrokes. The Bahamas native earned third in the 100 Backstroke, clocking in at 54.91, followed by a fourth-place finish in the 200 Backstroke (2:01.17).
In those respective events, Cooper's times are the fastest among any Bison this season.
Nickolas continued her dominance in the women's 1-meter and 3-meter dives with two victories.
The California product racked up her sixth win the 1-meter after recording a 218.25. Then, she picked up her second victory in the 3-meter with a 213.65 score.
Senior
Alexander Barnes (Rockledge, Fla.) secured his second victory of the season in the men's 200 Butterfly with a season-best time (51.61).
Third-year swimmer
Noah Nicholas (Atlanta) grabbed third in the 1000 Free after registering a season-best (10:27.80).

Sunday (Jan. 20), HU goes to Newark, N.J. where the men take on NJIT and Siena while the women face the Saints in a duel meet. The meet starts 1 p.m.
