WASHINGTON (January 11, 2019) – After a week of training in Bermuda, Coach
Nicholas Askew and the Howard University men's & women's swimming & diving squads resume competition in Norfolk, Va. where the men square off against Old Dominion (ODU) and the HU women take on ODU and Campbell. First race is set for noon.
LAST MEET
On Jan. 5, Howard was swept by the UMBC Retrievers in Baltimore. The men fell, 134-114, and the women, 138-115.
Despite the setbacks, sophomore diver
Christian Nickolas (Brentwood, Calif.) continued her momentum with a new personal best in the women's 1-meter dive (269.55), eclipsing her previous mark that qualified her for the 2019 NCAA Diving Championships (266.55). With her efforts, she grabbed her fifth victory of the season in that event.
Senior and future Olympian
Latroya Pina (Seeknok, Mass.) won the women's 100 yard Breaststroke, posting a 1:10.72 time, while second-year swimmer
Jon Bendana (Bowie, Md.) won the men's 200 IM with a 2:05.23 time.
BISON TO WATCH
Senior
KaSandra Kaplan (Detroit) and sophomore
Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) seek to build on their performances in the 50 Free. Both Bison finished second in their respective events and fell just shy of topping their season-best.
Additionally, Kaplan looks to top her season-high in the women's 100 Backstroke. Last week, the Detroit product finished second overall, clocking in at 1:01.83.
On the board, Nicholas continues her preparation for the upcoming NCAA Diving Championships. In Baltimore, the California native had put up amazing results in the women's 1-meter and 3-meter dives.

Sunday (Jan. 20), HU goes to Newark, N.J. where the men take on NJIT and Siena while the women face the Saints in a duel meet. The meet starts 1 p.m.
