@HUTrackandField's Women Sit Eighth After Day One at the MEAC Championships

Onuoha, Gbai advance; Ellis sits seventh in Heptathlon

GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 3, 2018) – With Day One of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the books, Director of Track and Field David Oliver and the Howard University Women's Track & Field team sits eighth overall after competing in only one scoring event.
 
Sophomore hurdler Uchechi Onuoha highlighted the day after setting the fast mark in the conference at the women's 400-meter hurdles heat with a 58.37 time. The Pennsylvania native earned an automatic qualifier to Saturday's finals. Event time at 2 p.m.
 
Freshman Jessika Gbai advanced to Saturday's 200-meter race after finishing sixth overall with a 23.65 mark.
 
Newcomer Kaylah Clark scored HU's lone point on the day by registering an eight-place finish in the women's discus throw. The Miami product threw 40.38 meters (132-06 feet).
 
The day start with the women's heptathlon where senior Al'Moni Ellis sits seventh after four events. Ellis came out the gate scorching by winning her 100-meter hurdle heat with a 14.10 mark, which was good for third overall. The Virginia native also placed fifth in the 200-meter race (25.42) and seventh in the shot put (32-06.50 feet).
 
Currently, the men sit tied for 11th after participating in only two events.

Day Two begins with the conclusion of the heptathlon. The event wraps up with the long jump, javelin, and 800-meter race, beginning at 9 a.m.
