WASHINGTON (October 12, 2018) – After being away from the pool, coach
Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Men's Swim team took second at American University.
HU edged out the Eagles, 119-110, but came up short against Manhattan, 128-105.
Sophomore
Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) led the way with a pair of first-place victories in the men's 50-yard (21.79) and 100-yard (48.29) freestyles.
Ford, seniors
Alexander Barnes (Rockledge, Fla.) and
Farion Cooper II (Nassau, Bahamas) and newcomer
Miguel Davis, Jr. (Prince George's County, Md.) recorded a win in the 200 medley relay.
Individually, Davis won the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a 58.99 mark while Barnes earned third in the 100 butterfly (51.91).
The 800-yard freestyle relay squad of seniors
Nicholas Haughton (Kingston, Jamaica) and
Mark McCluskey (Hope, Maine), junior
Noah Nicholas (Atlanta) and sophomore
William Speakman Smith II (Jacksonville, Fla.) claimed the top spot, posting a 7:18.17 time.
Haughton (500-yard freestyle; 5:00.35), McCluskey (100-yard freestyle; 49.67) and Smith (100-yard breaststroke; 1:00.35) each had solid performances in their respective individual events.
Other notable performance included second-year swimmer
Jon Bendana (Bowie, Md.) recording a 10:30.91 mark in the 1000-yard free.
