WASHINGTON (October 11, 2018) – After a week away from competition, coach
Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving squads return this weekend.
Friday (Oct. 12), the Bison travel back to American University where they will face the Eagles and Manhattan. The following day (Oct. 13), HU goes to the Tar Heel State to take on Barton and Virginia Military Institute.
LAST MEET
On Sept. 28, Howard competed at the Potomac Relay Invitational where the HU men finished third overall while the women placed fourth.
On the men's side, two relay teams placed second: 200-yard medley and 500-yard freestyle.
For the women, the trio of senior
Latroya Pina (Seeknok, Mass.), junior
Leanne McMaster (Kingston, Jamaica) and
India Jackson (Philadelphia) claimed second in the women's 3x100 backstroke relay, registering a 3:31.10 mark.
BISON TO WATCH
For the men, senior
Alexander Barnes (Rockledge, Fla.) enters the weekend after claiming Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Male Swimmer of the Week back on Oct. 2.
Friday (Sept. 28), Barnes and the Bison competed in the annual event where he recorded a 23.05 mark in the men's 200 Medley relay, followed by a 52.01 time in the 3x100 fly relay. The Florida native finished the meet with a 21.84 split in the 200 Free relay.
Other notable men to watch are sophomore
Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) and newcomer
Miguel Davis, Jr. (Prince George's County, Md.).
As for the women, HU standout senior
KaSandra Kaplan (Detroit) seeks to build on her legacy with another record. The Detroit product received honorable mention from the CCSA after her efforts at the Potomac Relay Invitational.
Other notable women to watch are freshmen
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.) and
Myka Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa.).
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Oct. 20, the Bison host Chowan in their home opener. First event starts 2 p.m. inside Burr Pool.
