Bison Conclude Regular Season at Catholic

Howard takes on crosstown foe Cardinals in dual meet

WASHINGTON (January 26, 2018) – Coach Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Teams conclude the regular season at crosstown foe Catholic University. Saturday's meet time is set for 1 p.m.
 
MEET PREVIEW
 
HU (8-3) men look to finish the regular season on a high note before competing in Athens, Ga. In their last meet, several Bison won individually: sophomore Noah Nicholas (1000-yard freestyle); freshmen Darrin Asphall (500 freestyle), Sidrell Williams (50-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle) and William Smith (100-yard breaststroke); and junior captain Alexander Barnes (100-yard butterfly).
 
Howard women (5-6) seek their sixth win of the season while moving to .500 on the year. In their last meet, multiple Bison claimed top spots in individual events: seniors Danielle Brown (100-yard butterfly) and Kayla Walker (500-yard freestyle); freshmen Chandler Carter (100-yard backstroke, 1000-yard freestyle) and Christian Nickolas (1-meter); junior Latroya Pina (100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley).
 
Catholic enters Saturday's meet 15-1 combined with the lone loss coming against Scranton women, 143.5-118.5. At the Yellow Jacket Invitational, the women (7-1) took home the crown whereas the men (8-0) placed third overall.
 
LAST MEET
 
Last Friday (Jan. 19), the Bison went 2-0 in their final home meet of the season.
 
HU women cruised past Marymount, 146-44, inside Burr Pool. During the meet, Howard recognized its three seniors for their hard work and dedication in and out of the pool: Brown; Walker; and Summer Lewis. All three seniors earned the HU Golden Goggle award, which is given to the most outstanding female swimmer.
 
Howard men topped New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), 116-115. and Marymount, 169-27. Smith earned the team's Golden Goggle, HU's most outstanding male performer of the meet, after winning the men's 100-yard breaststroke.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On Feb. 14-17, both squads travel to Athens, Ga., for the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships.
