WACO, Texas (December 20, 2017) – The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) unveiled its 2017 AFCA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches' All-America Teams where Howard University's senior Gerald Wright was selected to the second team. The announcement came Wednesday morning.
 
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.
 
Wright was considered one of the top linemen in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) after receiving an All-MEAC First Team nod.
 
He was named MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week (Sept. 4) while guiding one of the nation's top offenses. The Miami native helped HU lead the nation in passing yards per completion and the conference in total offense and rushing yards.
 
On Dec. 7, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) revealed its 2017 Division I FCS All-ECAC teams where Wright earned a spot on the All-ECAC Second Team.
 
Two-time AFCA All-America quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe of Sam Houston State and Western Illinois linebacker Brett Taylor headline the 2017 AFCA FCS Coaches' All-America Teams.

HU finished the regular season with a 7-4 overall record and 6-2 in league play and placed second in the conference standings.
