WASHINGTON (November 5, 2017) – After topping Mount St. Mary's, Coach
Nicholas Askew and the Howard Men's Swimming & Diving team knocked off Virginia Military Instiute (VMI), 145-117, at Burr Pool. With the win, HU went a perfect 2-0 over the weekend.
Sophomore Sidrell Williams earned the team's Golden Goggles, HU's most outstanding male performer of the meet, after winning the men's 100-yard freestyle and butterfly.
Junior captain Alexander Barnes, along with sophomores Don Brazelton and Maalik Nixon and freshman William Smith won the men's 200-yard medley relay with a 1:38.24 mark.
Individually, Barnes claimed the top spot in the men's 200-yard butterfly (1:58.82), followed by freshman Jon Bendana (2:05.10).
Smith finished first in the men's 100-yard and 200-yard breaststrokes.
Newcomer Darrin Asphall came away victorious in two events: 100-yard and 500-yard freestyles.
Fellow classmate Kegan Ford earned a win in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the final event, Howard won the men's 200-yard freestyle relay with Ford, Brazelton, Nixon, and Williams.
HU hits the road where they will face three opponents in two days.
Howard goes to Ashland, Va. to meet Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon Friday. The action starts 6 p.m.
Saturday (Nov. 11), the Bison travel to Wilson, N.C. for a dual meet against Barton College. First race at 1 p.m.
