WASHINGTON (November 4, 2017) – Coach
Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Men's Swimming & Diving team topped Mount St. Mary's, 123-91, at Burr Pool.
Sophomore Noah Nicholas earned the team's Golden Goggles, HU's most outstanding male performer of the meet, after winning the men's 500-yard freestyle with a time of five minutes flat.
Howard opened the meet with a victory in the men's 400-yard medley relay, led by Don Brazelton, Speakman Smith, Alex Barnes, and Mark McCluskey.
Additionally, Smith earned the top spot in the men's 100-yard breaststroke after posting the seventh fastest time in program history (58.99).
McCluskey also competed in the men's 50-yard freestyle where he finished runner-up behind teammate Maalik Nixon.
Individually, Barnes took first in the men's 100-yard butterfly with a 53.48 time.
Darrin Asphall won the men's 200 freestyle with a 1:46.77 mark while Sidrell Williams placed first in the men's 100-yard freestyle.
In the night's final event, Barnes, McCluskey, Williams, and Kegan Ford claimed first in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay.
Saturday, the Bison host Virginia Military Institute (VMI). First race is set for 1 p.m. at Burr Pool.
