Asphall Sets School Records In Loss At Loyola

Greyhounds snap Bison’s five-meet streak

BALTIMORE (November 18, 2017) – Freshman Darrin Asphall had a career day, setting two new school records; however, the Howard University Men's Swimming & Diving team overall could not take down the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds as they fell, 124-99. As a result, the Bison saw their five-meet winning streak come to an end.

Asphall earned the team's Golden Goggles, HU's most outstanding male performer of the meet, after resetting records in the men's 1000 (9:47.97) and 500 freestyles (4:43.91). Miles Hector was the previous recorded holder in both events. Asphall also finished first in both events Saturday.

Reigning Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Men's Swimmer of the Week sophomore Sidrell Williams finished first in the men's 200 freestyle, which was the seventh fastest time in program history.

Furthermore, Williams claimed the top spot in the men's 100 freestyle, followed by freshman Kegan Ford (48.80) and junior Mark McCluskey (49.44) each setting new season bests, respectively.

Junior Alexander Barnes recorded a new season best after winning the men's 100 Butterfly with a 51.20 mark, followed by a new season best from freshman Orane Garrick (55.15).

Garrick also registered a season best in the men's 50 freestyle (22.72), along with Jalen Watson (24.770 and Ameen Muhammed (24.77).

Barnes, McCluskey, Williams and sophomore Maalik Nixon finished the night winning the men's 200 freestyle relay with a 1:37.33 time, which is a season-best.

Junior Farion Cooper posting a new season best in the men's 200 individual medley (2:05.69).
