WILSON, N.C. (November 11, 2017) – After picking up two wins against Randolph-Macon and Hampden-Sydney, Coach
Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Men's Swimming & Diving team completed the weekend with a 135-66 victory over Barton. With the win, HU has won five meets in a row.
Freshman
William Smith earned the team's Golden Goggles, HU's most outstanding male performer of the meet, after placing first in the men's 50-yard breaststroke with a 27.75 time.
In Saturday's first event, Smith and classmate
Don Brazelton joined juniors
Alexander Barnes and
Mark McCluskey in the men's 200-yard medley relay where they placed first overall (1:40.52).
Barnes also took first in the men's 50-yard butterfly after posting a 23.88 time.
Freshman
Darrin Asphall won the men's 1000-yard (10:05.79) and 500-yard (4:46.06) freestyles.
Sophomore
Sidrell Williams claimed the top spot in two individual events: men's 50-yard (21.66) and 100-yard (46.68) freestyles.
Howard ended the afternoon with another victory in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.72). The team consist of McCluskey, Barnes, Brazelton, and freshman
Kegan Ford.
HU continues its road trip with two meets against Bucknell (Nov. 17) and Loyola (Md.) (Nov. 18).
Friday's prelims start 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
Saturday's meet begins 1 p.m. in Baltimore.
