Swimming Finishes Regular Season A Perfect 3-0 At Home

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard University men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the regular season with a sweep of The Catholic University of America on Saturday afternoon in the Burr Gym Pool.

The men's team (5-6) claimed a 133-72 victory and the women's team (4-7) grabbed a 123-82 win. With the pair of victories, the Bison finished the season a perfect 3-0 at home.

KaSandra Kaplan, Latroya Pina, Andreas Weech and Susanna Reese started off the day with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:53.90. Kaplan followed up the performance by winning the 1,000 freestyle in 11:25.47.

Reese nabbed the top spot in the 50 freestyle after she touched the wall in 25.47. Leanne McMaster won the 200 IM (2:21.57) and 100 freestyle (55.55). Danielle Brown set the pace in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.28 and Weech placed second in 1:01.84. Brown also won the 500 freestyle in 5:36.62.

Kaplan swam to victory in the 100 backstroke behind a time of 1:02.65 and Pina touched the wall in 1:08.78 to take home the title in the 100 breaststroke. Reese, Weech, Brown and McMaster joined forces for the 200 freestyle relay, which they finished in 1:40.87 for another first-place tally.

In the 200 medley relay, Don Brazelton, Xavier Philips, Alexander Barnes and Mark McCluskey teamed up to take first after completing the race in 1:38.10. Nicholas Haughton won the 200 freestyle in 1:48.33, with McCluskey coming in second in 1:50.01. Haughton also earned first in the 500 freestyle (5:00.23), while Noah Nicholas was second (5:03.91).

Philips touched the wall in 22.19 for first in the 50 freestyle and Kegan Ford took second in a time of 22.22. TJ Miller (2:00.65) and Jonathan Hill (2:05.68) had the top two spots in the 200 IM. Barnes was able to finish the 100 butterfly in 53.09 to win the race, while Farion Cooper checked in second in 54.82.

Miller also won the 100 freestyle in 47.29 and McCluskey was right behind him in 48.61. Brazelton touched the wall in 54.18 to take first in the 100 backstroke, followed by Devin Guardino (55.09). Philips picked up another victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.17). Barnes, Ford, Barzelton and Miller swam together for the 200 freestyle relay and grabbed first in a time of 1:29.11.
