Howard Players Receive Pre-Season Honors
Â
College Sports Madness FCS Pre-Season All-MEAC teams were announced and Howard University is well represented.
Â
Senior offensive guard
Joshua Matthews, senior safety
Julien David and sophomore
Damon Gresham-Chisholm have been selected to the 2013 first team, while senior tight end
David Wilson, sophomore punter
John Fleck and senior punt returner
Brandon Flanagan were all named to the second team.
Â
Junior quarterback
Greg McGhee, sophomore defensive lineman
Godspower Offor, junior linebacker
Khari Brown and Flanagan (wide receiver) all made the third team.
Â
The selections of Matthews, David and Chisholm came as no surprise. All three were selected to the All-conference first team last season and highly ranked among all players in the FCS.
Â
Wilson proved to be a key to the Bison offense last year while Fleck exhibited consistency as both a punter and placekicker. Flanagan led the team in receiving and has become a sure-handed performer.
Â
McGhee is arguably one of the top players in the conference while Offor (Wake Forest) and Brown (University of Buffalo) figure to be making an impact as FBS transfers. Flanagan is coming off a fine season while averaging almost 10 yards per punt return.
Â
Also receiving pre-season honors is junior kick return specialist Rodney "DJ" Tyson, who has been named to the College Football Performance Awards Watch list. The Evans, Ga. Native proved to be one of the more dangerous return specialists in the FCS, averaging over 33 yards per return before injuring a shoulder that sidelined him for the second half of the season. The speedy Tyson had a return of 100 yards for a TD, the longest in the MEAC last season.
