NATIONAL FOOTBALL SIGNING DAY 2013 HOWARD EDITION

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – February 6 – At the top of the 4:00 p.m. hour, the Howard University football team announces the following new members to the 2013 HU Bison football squad.
Coming out of the "Big Easy," and joining his fellow classmate Nate Lewis (2012 Howard class), is Warren Eastern High School defensive back David Thiel. The 6-1, 180 lb., New Orleans, La., native, who was 1st Team All-District student-athlete, has the ability to be a corner back and a kick returner. Thiel is considered one of the best DBs/KRs out of Louisiana, completing the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds.

From sunny Miami, Fla., is 6-3, 215 lb., outside linebacker Devyn Reid. Reid will graduate from Miami Central High School in June 2013.

Of all his classmates, this offensive lineman will be making the longest journey to the Nation's Capital, out of Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, Calif., is 6-4, 285 lb., Shaka Kendricks. Kendricks was named Offensive Lineman of the Year, All-League and received the Calvin Scooter Oats Award. Along with athletic accomplishments, the potential engineering student-athlete volunteers with the food bank, group homes and the Special Olympics, while holding membership with the Black Student Union and Brothers Making a Change.

Also out of California from Redondo Beach High School in Redondo Beach, Calif., is Anthony Philyaw. At 6-1, 195 lb., Philyaw was 1st Team All-Bay League –Southern California (2012-13) and 1st Team All-Conference –Western Division, while going 1280 yards on 143 carries in only eight games as a senior.

Hometown DMV hero Leland Lassiter of Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Md., is set to join the 2013 Howard University football team. Lassiter is a 5-9, 175 lb., defensive back.
