WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – Howard University junior Phillip Coker took the Wednesday, Sept. 12 contest against Liberty to another level with two goals in the second-half of play at Greene Stadium in Washington, D.C., despite suffering a 2-3 loss.
Liberty took an early 2-0 lead within the first 45 minutes of play with Sam Duininck attaining a goal at the 10:37 mark and Uriah Bentick beating out the HU goalie during a penalty kick.
But after the halftime intermission, Coker was determined to fight for a win at home, with two consecutive goals in less than five minutes.
Nonetheless, Liberty secured a goal at the 6:21 mark to regain momentum and take the win.
As a unit, the Bison tallied 13 shot attempts and amassed three corner kicks, while junior Brian Monge went for a season-high five shot attempts.
For the next contest, the Bison take on Saint Francis (N.Y.) in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept.15 at 4:00 p.m., and HU then returns home to hosts Mount Saint Mary's at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The last game of September takes place on Sunday, Sept. 23 in Philadelphia, Pa., against Temple at 2:00 p.m.
