Savannah, GA- The Howard University softball team opened its 2012 campaign with a double header against conference opponent Savannah State University on Saturday Feb. 12.

Although the Lady Bison did not secure a victory in the first match, they improved in the second game. In game two, Candace Rogers and Dominique Lawrence scored runs for HU in the first and second innings. Rogers went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead the offense. HU struggled to get things going, however. Pitcher Dominique Lawrence took the loss on the mound, pitching a complete game and fanning four batters.

During Sunday's matchup, Trina Kindred led the Bison offense by going 2-for-3 at the plate. Bison pitcher Lawrence received the loss, giving up six runs. Ashley Turner finished the game on the mound pitching 4.1 innings, facing 18 batters, and striking out two.

The Lady Bison will participate in the Spartan Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C this upcoming weekend.
