HOWARD LADY BISON HOOPS: HOWARD VS. LOYOLA (MD)

Game Notes: Howard v. Loyola (Md.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – The Howard University women's basketball team concludes its three-game homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 28 with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against Loyola (Md.) in Burr Gymnasium on the Howard University campus.

HU hosts the Loyola Greyhounds after defeating Mount Saint Mary's 77-52 on Sunday, Nov. 25 in Washington, D.C.

To obtain a 25-point win, three Lady Bison seniors attained season-best outing.  Kara Smith tallied a season-high 20 points, going 4-of-6 from three-point range, while Cheyenne Curley-Payne and Saadia Doyle shared assists accolades with a season-high 10 assists for Curley-Payne and a season-best five assists for Doyle.

Doyle also led in scoring with 26 points, steals with two and rebounds with eight, while Curley-Payne accompanied 11 points to her 10 assists for a double-double and red-shirt junior Jerelle Gorham tallied 10 points.

Collectively, the Lady Bison finished at 64 percent from the charity stripe, 49 percent from the field and 38 percent from long range.

Lady Bison Bites

• Niki Reid Geckeler is in her fourth season as head coach

• Finished second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference

• Fell 59-56 OT to Virginia during the WNIT in 2012

• On the season, the Lady Bison average 59.2 points per game, 35 percent from the field, 29 percent from the long range, and 61 percent from the free-throw line

Scouting Loyola (Md.)

• Joe Logan is in his eighth season at Loyola (Md.)

• The Greyhounds are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference

• Loyola is 2-3 on the season, as they enter Burr with a 52-44 victory over Towson on their side

• Katie Sheahin led the squad with 14 points, while Alyssa Sutherland followed with 12 points…Sheahin also led in rebounds with eight rebounds and four assists

• On the night, LU shot 33 percent from the field, 42 percent from the three-point range and 100 percent from the free-throw line

• The Greyhounds average 55.8 ppg., while going 37 percent from the field, 32 percent from three-point range and 74 percent from the free-throw line

Doyle on the Doyle

Lady Bison standout begun her double-double performances, on the season Doyle has:

• 21 points and 10 rebounds (DePaul)

• 12 points and 11 rebounds (Northwestern)

Consecutive Honors for Doyle

Saadia Doyle was name Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.  The honor was announced on Thursday, Nov. 1.

What Have You Heard about the Herd

Along with Doyle's accolades, the Lady Bison were predicted to finish first in the MEAC this 2012-13 season.

Major News

Among 340 mid-major Division I institutions in the country, the Lady Bison ranked 12th above Richmond (Atlantic 10), Harvard (Ivy) and Central Michigan (Mid-American) on the preseason list.
