Howard vs. Mount St. Mary's Game Notes

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – With home court advantage in their favor and the first win of the season under their Nikes, the Howard University women's basketball team is set to host "The Mount" of Mount Saint Mary's on Sunday, Nov. 25 on the Burr Gymnasium hardwood in Washington, D.C.

HU opened its three-game homestead with a 60-38 win over Bowie State University on Friday, Nov. 23

Senior Saadia Doyle, who tallied six points on the first half of action, finished with a team-high 29 points, while fellow classmate Cheyenne Curley-Payne gathered 11 points and redshirt-junior Jerelle Gorham attained 10 points.  Senior Nicole Deterville amassed a season-high 10 rebounds, as Doyle collected eight boards.  Curley-Payne circulated nine assists and two steals.

Collectively, the Lady Bison finished at 64 percent from the charity stripe, 35 percent from the field and 18 percent from long range.

Lady Bison Bites

• Niki Reid Geckeler is in her fourth season as head coach

• Finished second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference

• Fell 59-56 OT to Virginia during the WNIT in 2012

• On the season, the Lady Bison average 55.6 points per game, 32 percent from the field, 26 percent from the long range, and 61 percent from the free-throw line

Scouting Mount St. Mary's

• Bryan Whitten is in his sixth season at Mount Saint Mary's

• The Mount are members of the Northeast Conference

• Mount Saint Mary's is 1-2 on the season, as they enter Sunday's contest with a 54-48 loss to Campbell on Monday, Nov. 19 in Emmitsburg, Md. (Knott Arena)

• Tonisha Baker and Kiera Gaines scored in double figures, with 17 points and 15 points, respectively, while Ashley James pulled down 12 a team-high 12 rebounds

• On the night, MSMU shot 38 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three-point range and 67 percent from the free-throw line

• The Mount averages 55 ppg., while going 35 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 81 percent from the free-throw line

Lady Bison standout begun her double-double performances, on the season Doyle has:

• 21 points and 10 rebounds (DePaul)

• 12 points and 11 rebounds (Northwestern)

Consecutive Honors for Doyle

Saadia Doyle was name Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.  The honor was announced on Thursday, Nov. 1.

What Have You Heard about the Herd

Along with Doyle's accolades, the Lady Bison were predicted to finish first in the MEAC this 2012-13 season.

Major News

Among 340 mid-major Division I institutions in the country, the Lady Bison ranked 12th above Richmond (Atlantic 10), Harvard (Ivy) and Central Michigan (Mid-American) on the preseason list.
