COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The Lady Bison tennis took on the 40th ranked University of Maryland Terps at the College Park Tennis Center. Maryland won all nine matches in a highly contested team match. The Terps behind the 37th ranked doubles team of Cristina Stancu and Welma Luus won all three doubles matches. Maryland earned straight set victories at No. 1 and 2 singles led by Stancu, ranked at 28th in the nation.
The Bison challenged at No. 3,4 and 5 singles lossing all three set matches. Luus beat sophomore Brooke Hawthorne in a hard fought three setter 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-4. Senior Michelle Brown lost a heartbreaker to Maryland' s Jordan Hansbrough 0-6,6-3,6-3 while the Terps Vroni Von Berlo outfought freshman Talia Johnson 6-1,6-7(5),6-4.
"I knew going in that Maryland had the top singles and doubles team in the region" said Coach Larry Strickland. "Our points were going to have to come from the bottom of your line up. We were close but unable to close the door on a very good ACC team. we will be a good team as we round into shape."
The Lady Bison are back in action on Feb. 11 at North Carolina Central.
