WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Seniors Christopher Harrison and Ashley Hodges led the Howard University men's and women's track teams to a good start in its first outdoor meet of the 2011 season held at Wake Forest.
Hodges following up from her MEAC Indoor 5k championship performance, placed second in the 800m (2:13.21), while Chris Harison got nipped at the tape for a second place finish in the 400m (47.54).
"I believe Chris would have won had he ran through the finish line," said new head coach Curtis Pittman. The Lady Bison's distance medley that was comprised of Jami Hardy, Danielle Douglas, Jasmin Selby and Hodges, took second in a field of seven with a time of 12:22.
Senior Tochi Odocha (100m) and sophomore Keisha Myrick (100mH) qualified for the finals in their perspective races. Other notable performances were sophomore Jami Hardy (2:14.40-5th) and senior Jerod Franklin (1:55.21-9th) both in the 800m, and sophomore Zahr Thomas (57.44) in the 400m.
