Indianapolis, IN—December 19-The 17th ranked Hoosiers combined some sizzling outside shooting and some staunch defense to run by Howard University, 107-50 in a non-conference men's game at Assembly Hall before 11,111.
Indiana University (11-0), which is off to its best start in recent years made quick work of Howard, using a 19-2 run midway through the first half to take a commanding 52-15 lead at the half. The hot shooting Hoosiers shot 67 percent (18 of 27) from the field, including 64 percent (9 of 14) from beyond the arc as five different players had at least one three-point basket.
Howard (3-9) struggled offensively, missing 26 of the 32 shot attempts for 18 percent and managing a season low 15 first half points.
The Hoosiers changed their game plan in the second half and switched into a transition game that saw several dunks off fast breaks. Indiana picked up where it left off, hitting on 68 percent. Cody Zeller was the most effective as the 6-11 freshman was credited with three slams in the second half.
The Bison were able to be a little more effective late in the second half as freshmen Simuel Frazier, Prince Okoroh and Brandon Ford were able to penetrate the Indiana defense. Frazier led the Bison with 13 points, 12 coming after intermission while Okoroh tallied eight of his nine in the second stanza, and Ford contributed all of his six points.
The Hoosier featured a balanced attack that saw six players score in double figures. Jordan Hulls led all scorers with 16, Zeller, Verdell Jones III and Will Sheehy with 12 each and Christian Watford and Victor Oladipo with 10.
