Washington, DC – The Howard women's basketball team dropped its second-straight game against St. Francis (PA) on Thurs. Dec. 16 at Burr Gymnasium. This was the team's first match since Dec. 4, and their first home game since Nov. 20. With the loss, the Lady Bison drop to 2-1 at home and 3-8 overall. HU will host Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 29 for its final game of 2010. The game is slated for 7 p.m.
Four HU players recorded double-figures in the loss. Adelle Walton tallied a career-best 17 points – all in the second half – behind a 5-for-7 mark from three-point land. Cheyenne Curley-Payne scored 13 points in 18 minutes. Tamoria Holmes and Saadia Doyle chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Nether team shot well in the first period as they were both held to under 30 percent shooting. The Lady Bison trailed 22-16 heading into intermission.
Howard opened up the second stint with an 11-5 run – capped by a Walton triple – to take a 29-27 advantage – its first lead since the 18:19 mark of the first half. SFU regained the edge on the next possession as each team traded baskets over the proceeding five-plus minutes.
The score was knotted four times but the Red Flash took a lead (44-42) at the 8:25 mark that they would sustain until the end of the game. SFU ended the game with a 12-6 run.
Saint Francis won the battle down low as they outscored the Lady Bison 30-22 in the paint. HU converted 16 points off 24 Red Flash turnovers.
As a team, Howard finished 21-for-59 (35.6 percent) from the floor, including a 9-of-18 (50 percent) mark from behind the arc.
For SFU, Alexandria Williams scored a game-high 22 points off 10-of-16 shooting from the field. Samantha Leach finished with 16 points. Allison Daly pulled down a game-best 12 off the glass.
The Lady Bison are back in action on Dec. 29 when it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m. in Burr Gymnasium.
