DOVER, DE - The Howard women's soccer team
was trailing 1-0 at the half, but scored two goals in the second
period to take a 2-1 victory over Delaware State on Friday. The
Lady Bison improve to to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the Great West
Conference.
Delaware State (1-14, 0-3 GWC) opened the scoring
when Jeanette Salgado fired a shot past Howard goal keeper Cheyra Bell from 35 yards out in the 22nd minute. For the game, Bell had
four saves on the day.
The Lady Bison tied the match when Retha Koefoed beat
DSU's Courteney Haas off a feed from Jordan Brown in the
73rd minute. HU pulled ahead on a goal by Brittany Peebles
less than two minutes later. Brown and Cynthia Snyder
were credited with assists on the go-ahead goal.
Delaware State had a good scoring chance off a corner kick by
Theresa Wappett in the 83rd minute, but came up empty.
HU is back in action on Oct. 19 against South Carolina State
beginning at 4 p.m.
