WASHINGTON (September 26, 2024) - The Howard University men's basketball team will host William & Mary Saturday, Oct. 19, as part of homecoming weekend for the program's annual charity exhibition game. The game will begin at 11 a.m., prior to the football team's 3:30 p.m., kickoff.
Since 2024 is a presidential election year, the program selected "The Team" as the beneficiary of the game's proceeds. As a leading civic engagement organization that invests money in the community-building projects of college athletes, The Team emphasizes leadership development, voter registration and community activism.
"The Team's core values align seamlessly with our program's well documented commitment to activism and overall improvement of our community," Howard head coach Kenneth Blakeney said.
This exhibition is the latest in a series of voter engagement events that the Bison have taken part in prior to the election, including the "Howard Bison Vote" campaign and various Congressional Black Caucus events, promoting the importance of voter registration and education.
"The Team is extremely grateful for the partnership with Howard men's basketball," co-founder and executive director Joe Kennedy said. "We are thrilled to be working [with Howard] to promote non-partisan civic engagement and support their program, which has set an example for engaged teams. Coach Blakeney and William & Mary Coach Brian Earl have prioritized the development of their team's "civic habits" off the court. We couldn't be prouder of partnering with Howard men's basketball as they use their platform to make a difference."
