Women's Soccer Receives Recognition Prior To Inaugural SWAC Season

WASHINGTON, DC --- Three members of the Howard women's soccer team have been named to the 2014 College Sports Madness (CSM) Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Preseason All-Conference Team. The honors are the first for the women's soccer program as members of the SWAC, as the team joins the league as an affiliate member this Fall.

Seniors Nia Walcott & Jeseca Hinds, along with sophomore Carmez Suarez, were chosen to the SWAC Preseason All-Conference Second Team by the staff at CSM, who "expects the players chosen to make significant contributions to their teams this season."

Walcott and Suarez played and started in all 15 games last season, while Hinds played and started in all but one.

Suarez, picked as a forward, was second on the team in goals (3; tied), assists (2) and points (8) while creating the most shots (22) and shots on goal (13) on the team and scoring a game-winning goal.

Walcott, honored as a midfielder, logged three assists on the season while putting nearly 58 percent of her shots on goal.

Hinds, named as a defender, scored one goal on the season.

In addition to the selections CSM, the program was chosen to finish sixth out of the 11 SWAC teams when the conference released their Preseason honors and Predicted Order of Finish. The Lady Bison were picked behind 2013 SWAC Finalist Alabama State (1st), 2013 Champion Jackson State (2nd), Prairie View A&M (3rd), Southern (4th) and Mississippi Valley State (5th).
