Volleyball Triumphs Over LaSalle In Home Debut

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- In its first game within the friendly confines of Burr Gymnasium, the Howard University women's volleyball team defeated the LaSalle University Explorers in four sets (25-11, 25-19. 24-26. 25-19).

Howard (2-2) was led to victory over LaSalle (1-4) by a trio of double-digit attackers. Freshman Katherine Broussard (16 kills), junior Assata Conway (11) and sophomore Jaleeza Stoudermire (10) combined for 37 of the Lady Bison's 60 kills. Junior captain Stephanie Shultis continued to set up HU's offense, registering 42 assists in the four-set match.

The Lady Bison will look to break its early string of alternating wins and losses this weekend as they travel to New York to take part in the St. Francis Brooklyn Tournament. The tournament begins for Howard with a 4:30 PM game on Friday, September 6 against Rider University, followed by an early 10:30 AM match against host St. Francis Brooklyn and a 5:00 PM contest with New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) on Saturday, September 7.
